Sudan: The Dilemma of Reaping Victory..!

Sudan is currently living through one of its most complex and dual historical moments in both political and military tracks; as it stands on the edge of national victory on one hand, and on the verge of political dispossession on the other, in a critical moment that can be described as the dilemma of reaping victory.

The Sudanese people were supposed to reap the fruits of their sacrifices, but international and regional pressures threaten to hijack the moment of victory, as happened in previous attempts to hijack the state through supporting the coup of the “Rapid Support” militia on April 15, 2023, in collusion with local political forces that sought to shape the scene in isolation from the will of the people.

This decisive and ambiguous moment cannot be read only within the framework of military battles, but in a broader political context, represented in attempts to impose external solutions to determine the course of the war and control its outcome. However, the national stage requires a purely national political vision, stemming from within, securing national decision-making away from foreign dictates.

Since the outbreak of the war, Sudan has faced major military challenges, as the Sudanese army seeks to regain control and establish security in Darfur and Kordofan. What distinguishes the current situation is not only the fighting on the ground, but the sensitive balance between maintaining state stability and resisting external pressures that seek to impose political settlements serving their own interests, posing a real threat to national sovereignty and the people’s right to self-determination.

Amid the acceleration of international movements, especially by the Quartet Committee (the United States, Saudi Arabia, Britain, and the UAE), Sudan’s position, led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, was clear: yesterday, during offering condolences to the family of the martyr Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Mirghani Zarroug in Atbara city, Nile River State, who was martyred in El Fasher city, he stated: “No mediation will be accepted unless it is based on national will, and no settlement will be imposed from outside.”

Sudan today is in dire need of unifying its internal ranks more than ever before, in the face of political and economic siege on one hand, and international community pressures on the other. History has proven that a unified internal front is the real guarantee to resist any imposed solutions, and it is the solid base for building a political process that reflects the aspirations of the people, not the interests of others.

National alignment among political forces, movements, and trade union entities is an imperative necessity. It is the decisive response to attempts to abort the Sudanese will. While some countries continue to promote external conferences and mediations, Sudan’s adherence to its sovereignty and its rejection of any settlement that does not respect its national decision represents a focal point toward a Sudanese-Sudanese solution.

In this context, the meetings of Sudanese political forces in Port Sudan come as an important step to restore national unity. The various forces agreed that the national dialogue should be under independent Sudanese management, leading to a unified vision for a new phase of building national institutions.

The final statement of the meeting, held the day before yesterday, which was expressed by twenty political parties and national forces, affirmed the importance of unifying visions to achieve peace and democratic transformation, and called for a comprehensive dialogue conference with the participation of all parties without exclusion, along with the formation of an independent national committee to manage the dialogue and prepare the environment.

Building a purely Sudanese platform, stemming from within the country and bringing together all political, social, and community entities, is the optimal path to achieve a genuine political settlement that ends the internal conflict and lays the foundation for sustainable peace.

The Sudanese crisis cannot be addressed outside the country’s borders, and no foreign mediation can impose itself if the Sudanese political will is available to make the internal dialogue successful.

Experience has shown that any settlement that does not respect the popular will and does not put national sovereignty at the forefront will lead to new complications. However, opportunities still exist for Sudan to resist imposed solutions through:

Tightening control on the ground: The army’s advance in Kordofan and Darfur and its siege of the Rapid Support militia enhances the state’s military and political position.

Also, forming a cohesive internal front: The national dialogue can produce a unified vision that places the interests of the people above all else.

In addition to resisting external pressures: Sudan today is more aware and determined to reject any solutions that do not consider its sovereignty and interests.

Alongside the consolidation of justice and national dignity: Rejecting agreements that entrench injustices is a fundamental condition for any just peace.

Nevertheless, the challenges remain great in light of the ongoing war and its complexities, which calls for support from Sudan’s true friends to facilitate dialogue without interfering in its details or imposing their own agendas.

Ultimately, as confirmed by #Face_of_Truth, the Sudanese national initiative is the only path toward real stability. If Sudan succeeds in building a unified internal front, it will be able to enhance its political and military position, impose its national will, and lay the foundations for a lasting peace that fulfills the aspirations of its people and preserves their security and dignity.

Wishing you all well and good health.
